Much has been made lately about the propagation of white supremacist organization within the military, so in the spirit of making light of current events, here’s an action/response flow chart taken from Pamphlet 600-15: “Personnel-General – Extremist Activities,” the Army’s official document regarding “extremist” soldiers. The following are official instructions for any commanding officer faced with the timeless stumper: my lance corporal has a swastika on his forehead.

A Google-Map of What I Smell On My Morning Commute

I ride my bike to work most days and have found Chicago to be a city of smells, a densely woven fabric of free-roaming odors and vapors. Here is a map of my morning commute, from Bucktown to the south-east end of the Loop, with annotated smell identifiers.

Being surveyors of the pop cultural landscape carries with it a lot of responsibility. They don’t hand out those fancy bright orange camera-binocular things to just anybody you know. No sir (or ma’am), we are contractually obligated to discuss, purposefully ignore, or insult all or none major and minor popular and underground movements, events, notions, memes, undertakings, ideological tenets, works of art, media, publications, and institutions.
