Being surveyors of the pop cultural landscape carries with it a lot of responsibility. They don’t hand out those fancy bright orange camera-binocular things to just anybody you know. No sir (or ma’am), we are contractually obligated to discuss, purposefully ignore, or insult all or none major and minor popular and underground movements, events, notions, memes, undertakings, ideological tenets, works of art, media, publications, and institutions. So, naturally, we sent one of our own – RD’s in-house smug Indie Rock jerk, Eric Marsh – to the South-by-Southwest music festival in Austin, Texas.
He left sometime yesterday morning and has only managed to post to Facebook five photographs of the southern-midwestern landscape along his drive. That’s it. That’s our SXSW coverage. A photo of an Arby’s in Springfield, Missouri. Also, apparently somewhere along the way, he saw two Shell stations across the street from each other.*
